Introduction:

Study of the sterile couple

- What is human infertility and why it occurs?

Sterility in a couple is defined as the inability to conceive a child after one year of unprotected sex. When the woman's age is near or exceeds 37 years, this time should be reduced to 6 months.

There is no absolute sterility in most cases. But there does exist more or less important problems that make it very difficult to achieve a pregnancy spontaneously. There are many causes that can produce a situation of sterility in couples. Through the clinical study of women and men it’s possible, in most cases, to detect the problem and treat it. Sometimes in a simple way, or through more complex and specific procedures. This is the scope of the Human Assisted Reproduction Unit.

In general, it is relatively easy to know if infertility is coming from the male or from female.

In on many occasions, we encountered problems in both. Couples, whose infertility is present in both male and female, make up more than 30% of all sterile couples. Finally, we found that, despite of all the progress in diagnoses, 5-10% of couples infertility remains of unknown origin.

In Gris Reproducción-CIRH we always make a comprehensive study of the couple, to find out the cause of their infertility. When we known it, then we propose the most appropriate treatment for each case. With the consent of the couple, the treatment is started, and continued till the pregnancy has been achieved.

Subsequently, each patient is sent to their gynecologist for the monitoring of pregnancy and giving birth, which is not different from any natural procedure.

Gris Reproducción CIRH-Lab has developed a special program of assistance to people residing outside of the Spanish state.
